Vannevar and Cape Partner to Deliver Real-Time RF Sensing at the Tactical Edge

Vannevar, a defense technology company, has partnered with Cape, a cloud-based mobile carrier, to deliver real-time RF sensing capabilities to U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) partners operating across overseas networks. By integrating Vannevar’s attritable RF sensor, Scout, with Cape’s secure, private networking infrastructure, the joint solution enables forward deployment, rapid threat detection, and secure data transmission in contested and remote environments.

The Scout sensor is engineered to function in austere and disconnected locations, delivering unclassified, shareable intelligence to support U.S. national security operations. In recent months, Vannevar has embedded Cape’s proprietary backhaul technology within Scout to ensure reliable and secure RF data transmission across the network.

This integrated sensing solution was successfully deployed during the Balikatan 2025 and Katana Strike 2025 military exercises, supporting maritime mission scenarios across the Indo-Pacific. The Vannevar and Cape teams collaborated closely with 5th ANGLICO and other units from the III Marine Information Group (MIG) of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Cape CEO John Doyle said, "This exercise was a great opportunity for Cape to demonstrate the breadth and throughput of our telecom network in mission-critical use cases for the DOD, which could not have happened without Vannevar's firsthand understanding of critical DOD mission needs and current technology gaps. We were proud to support Scout's ability to integrate with existing systems, collect on objects of interest, and cue further reconnaissance."

Vannevar CTO Scott Philips, who oversaw the joint team, observed, "Cape's private and secure network enabled our sensors and accompanying software to deliver critical, real-time insights to our DOD partners overseas, with faster connection speeds than alternatives in Asia. Looking ahead, we plan to embed Cape SIMs into our Scout sensors and use Cape as our primary network provider, given their proven success in contested, remote, and denied environments."
