Molex, a global electronics leader and connectivity innovator, has introduced the Cardinal Multi-Port High-Frequency Coaxial Assemblies, expanding its Cardinal family to support frequencies up to 145 GHz and setting a new benchmark for test and measurement (T&M) applications. Supporting frequencies up to 145 GHz, the new product extends the proven mechanical integrity of the Cardinal platform into the high-bandwidth spectrum required to validate next-generation AI-driven architectures and emerging 6G wireless infrastructure.
“The expansion to 145 GHz represents a natural evolution of the Cardinal product line, which was built to solve the growing need for increased port density without compromising signal integrity,” said Roman Buff, General Manager, RF at Molex. “This new high-speed solution integrates high-frequency contact technology in the Cardinal multi-port housing, empowering engineers to bridge the gap from AI to 6G and test the silicon of tomorrow using the infrastructure of today.”
Testing Ahead of the Curve
While 110 GHz has served as the benchmark for high-performance testing, increasing 6G research and AI backhaul demands are raising the ceiling. The new 145 GHz Cardinal assemblies characterize signals previously beyond the reach of standard coaxial interfaces. The assemblies deliver phase-matched, high-precision connections up to 145 GHz, optimized for minimal insertion loss and superior return loss at extreme frequencies. The solution also supports data characterization rates up to 448 Gbps, enabling validation of next-generation devices and networking systems.
Configurable, Multi-Port Advantage
The multi-port design supports simultaneous, high-density testing in a compact footprint, accelerating R&D cycles. Designed for seamless integration across the Cardinal ecosystem, the assemblies provide high-performance connectivity for applications including AI clusters, 5G/6G infrastructure, satellite communications, mmWave radar, and emerging terahertz imaging.
By consolidating multiple RF connectors into a single multi-port housing, Molex reduces testing cycles and total cost of ownership. The assemblies feature compression-mounted, solderless PCB attachment for improved installation efficiency and reduced rework time. Integration of high-frequency contact technology enables a smooth upgrade path from 110 to 145 GHz capabilities.
Consistent, Repeatable Performance
Cardinal Multi-Port High-Frequency Coaxial Assemblies are rated for reliable performance over 500 mating cycles, supporting repeatable and consistent measurements in demanding test environments. The high-density PCB connector design minimizes board real estate, allowing smaller evaluation boards and further cost reduction.
Product Availability
The Cardinal 145 GHz assemblies are available now and join Molex’s existing 67 GHz and 110 GHz precision coaxial assemblies. Connector options include vertical, right-angle, and edge-mount PCB terminations, along with scalable multi-port configurations such as 1x4, 1x8, and 2x8. Molex will showcase the new assemblies at DesignCon 2026 (February 24-26, Santa Clara Convention Center, Booth 739), alongside other high-speed design technologies, including Impress Co-Packaged Copper Solutions, 224G products, and innovations spanning RF, signal integrity, and thermal management.
