Nordic Semiconductor has announced the expansion of its cellular IoT portfolio at Mobile World Congress 2026, introducing two new product series and updates to its existing nRF91 Series. The expansion is aimed at supporting secure, global connectivity as cellular networks and satellite NTN evolve.
“Nordic is building the next era of cellular IoT, and we are expanding our portfolio to give developers the most trusted, power-efficient, and scalable connectivity platform for billions of devices worldwide,” says Vegard Wollan, CEO at Nordic Semiconductor. “Our goal is to make globally connected products easier to build, deploy, and scale – from chip to cloud.”
The expansion introduces the nRF92 and nRF93 Series, built on the foundation of Nordic’s nRF91 Series.
- The nRF92 Series supports LTE-M/NB-IoT and satellite NTN. It integrates an application MCU, Nordic’s Axon NPU (Neural Processing Unit), multi-constellation GNSS receiver, Wi-Fi locationing, and sensor co-processing. The series is intended for applications including smart meters, trackers, labels, industrial sensors, and wearables. Lead customer sampling is underway, with general availability expected from early 2027.
- The nRF93 Series targets LTE Cat 1 bis cellular IoT applications. The nRF93M1 modules support downlink speeds of 10 Mbps and uplink speeds of 5 Mbps, with global LTE support and Wi-Fi location capabilities. The module is integrated with nRF Cloud and supports FOTA, observability, remote debugging, and location services. Lead customers are developing products using the nRF93M1, with general availability scheduled for mid-2026.
- Nordic also announced updates to the nRF91 Series. The nRF9151 LTE-M/NB-IoT module now includes 3GPP-compliant GEO and LEO satellite NTN connectivity. It will also include sub-GHz fallback to maintain connectivity when public networks are unavailable. The company is introducing the nRF91M1 module, described as a Smart Modem solution for adding cellular connectivity. It includes Nordic’s modem stack, AT-command interface, and cloud integration, supporting traditional host modem architectures.
- 5G eRedCap – Nordic is collaborating with lead customers on 5G eRedCap technologies as part of its long-term strategy for ultra-low-power 5G connectivity across IoT applications.
“Nordic is building the next era of cellular IoT, and we are expanding our portfolio to give developers the most trusted, power-efficient, and scalable connectivity platform for billions of devices worldwide.” Vegard Wollan, CEO at Nordic Semiconductor.
“This expansion marks a defining moment for Nordic’s long-range strategy,” said Oyvind Birkenes, EVP Long-Range at Nordic Semiconductor. “A unified, market-leading portfolio spanning across these technologies gives developers clarity, confidence, and a long-term roadmap they can rely on - even as networks and requirements evolve worldwide.”
Nordic will present its cellular IoT portfolio at MWC Barcelona 2026 in Hall 7, Booth 7B51 (March 2–5) and at Embedded World 2026 in Nuremberg, Hall 4A, Booth 310 (March 10–12).
