United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), known for its semiconductor foundry business and manufacturing integrated circuits wafers for fabless semiconductor companies, reported unaudited net sales for the month of May 2020. Amid the global pandemic, the sales figures have shown an increase in their revenue, which is in contrast to almost every other industry and business worldwide.
UMC reported a revenue of 14,745,577 New Taiwan Dollars (NT$) for the month of May 2020, which is an increase of NT$ 2,503,310 (20.45%) year-over-year. This marks another successful month for UMC as their growth continues in 2020 with the revenue standing at NT$ 72,072,613 from January to May 2020. It translates to an impressive increase of NT$ 15,165,112 (26.65%) in their revenue year-over-year.
This continuous growth comes as a surprise as almost every other electronics sector, from smartphones to WLAN, have reported a decline in their sales worldwide during this global pandemic. It will be worth observing if this trajectory of growth continues for UMC in the coming months or will it succumb to the pandemic and looming recession.
