The VLL1871 from Communications & Power Industries is Switch Limiter that operates from 1070 to 1110 MHz. It is a multi-function unit consisting of three elements: an SPST switch, a passive limiter, and a directional coupler. The device can handle an input power of up to 1 W and has an insertion loss of less than 0.5 dB. It provides a switched attenuation of more than 40 dB and has a switching speed of less than 1 µs. The passive limiter has a spike power leakage of under 500 mW and a flat power leakage of less than 40 mW. The directional coupler provides a coupling factor of 20 dB with directivity of more than 20 dB.
The VLL1871 requires a DC supply of 3.3 V and consumes less than 50 mA of current. It uses single-ended LVDS logic control input. The switch limiter is available in a compact module with all RF ports coupled through DC blocks. It is suitable for high power handling, low-noise figure applications, calibrated coupling, and for variable attenuation purposes.
