Plane Wave Calculator
Plane waves are the waves whose value, at any moment, is constant over a plane normal to the direction of propagation.
This online plane wave calculator calculates the phase velocity Vp (m/s), wavelength λ (meter (s)), and wave impedance (Ω) of the plane wave by entering the value of relative permittivity (εr), relative permeability (μr) of the medium, and frequency (MHz/GHz).

How to calculate Phase velocity?
The phase velocity is the velocity of a constant phase-point of the wave. In other words, it is the velocity of the phase from the viewpoint of an observer to whom the phase appears constant as a function of time.
The phase velocity of the plane wave can be calculated by using the following formula.
The wavelength is calculated by using the following formula.
Wavelength λ = Vp/f
How to calculate Wave Impedance?
The wave impedance of an electromagnetic wave is the ratio of the electric field strength to the magnetic field strength at that point and instant of observation. We can say that if the electric field strength is denoted in volts per meter and the magnetic field strength is denoted by ampere-turns per meter, then as per Ohm’s Law, the wave impedance will have the unit of ohms.
The wave impedance can be calculated by using the following formula.
Where,
Vp = Phase velocity in m/s
C = Speed of light
εr = Relative permittivity
