What are Analog RF Phase Shifters?
Analog Phase Shifter is a device which provides a continuously variable phase shift and is adjusted by changing the voltage level. It is made of analog control circuits and the phase shift change is based on the tuning voltage level specified for the phase shifter. In analog phase shifters, the phase shift is monotonic with respect to control voltage, which means phase shift produced by the device increases or decreases in a consistent and continuous manner (i.e., without any sudden jumps or non-linear behavior) with respect to the control voltage applied to it.
Analog phase shifters are ideal for use in radar, telecom infrastructure, electronic warfare, military, test instrumentations, space system, etc.
Key Specification Parameters of Analog Phase Shifters:
- Operating Frequency: Represents the frequency range in which the analog phase shifter provides best electrical performance.
- Control Voltage: Represents the control voltage range required to produce phase shift.
- Phase Shift Range: It is the phase range (in degree) provided by the analog phase shifter.
- Insertion Loss: It is the amount of signal power that is lost as the signal passes through the analog phase shifter, expressed in decibels (dB). The lower the loss, the better the performance.
- Power Handling: It is the maximum input power at which the analog phase shifter can operate without any damage, typically expressed in Watts or dBm.
- Package Type: Based on the required application the package type for the analog phase shifter can be selected. There are a number of different package types available such as connectorized, surface mount, die etc. The package type for the power amplifier is normally selected according to the required application.
