What are RF Cable Assemblies?
RF Cable Assemblies are high frequency and mmWave cables with coaxial connectors on either end. Cable Assemblies are selected based on the connector interfaces and the length of the cable. There are cases where the same coaxial connector is required on both ends, and there are cases where different coaxial connectors are required on either end.
When selecting an RF Cable Assembly it is important to specify the type of cable required. This can be rigid, flexible, conformal or rigid-flex. Different types of cables are required for different applications. The RF connectors used on either end of the assembly also need to be specified. These are selected based on the devices that the cable assembly needs to be connected to. Test Equipment usually has fixed connectors, so when buying cable assemblies to use with a particular test device, the connector on one side must match the equipment. The connector on the other end depends on the connector interface of the DUT. In case this does not match RF Adapters can always be used. The selection of the cable type and connector interface also regulates the frequency up to which the cable assembly can operate.
RF Cables Assemblies are used for a wide range of applications like in the test lab, where VNA's are connected to the DUT (Device Under Test) using a cable assembly or two RF systems are together connected together using cable assemblies. There are a range of cables assemblies specifically made for different applications - for example, there are assemblies that are specially designed to have minimal changes to the signal passing through even as the cable is bent and moved around, there are cables that need to be very well isolated and thus have extra shielding.
everything RF has created a parametric tool to simplify the search for RF Cable Assemblies. We have listed thousands of cable assemblies from various manufacturer catalogs and made them searchable by specification.
Here are some parameters that you can use to find a catalog cable assembly on everything RF:
Cables: The cable that connects the two connectors can be selected from here. The length of the rf cable assembly can also be selected using the ‘Length’ filter.
Connector Type: Connector 1 and Connector 2 are the connectors at either end of the cable.
Connector Gender: The gender of both the Connectors can be selected under the filters Connector 1 Gender and Connector 2 Gender.
Connector Geometry: The Geometry of the connectors in the cable assemblies can be selected using the Connector 1 Geometry and Connector 2 Geometry filters.
Frequency: This is the frequency up to which the RF Cable Assembly can operate. This is based on the Connectors and Cable used. View the RF Connector Frequency Chart on everything RF.
