What are Dust Caps?
RF Dust Caps or coaxial dust caps are used to protect the ends of RF connectors from contaminants, which can cause damage to the test and measurement equipment or precision testing cables. These caps boost the RF and mechanical performance of the equipment while operating at both low and high frequency. They prevent dust particles from getting inside the connector. These caps are made of various materials and use a unique insulator.
RF dust caps protect the connector interface when it's not in use and open terminations from dust and corrosion. These caps are RoHS compliant and easy to install. They are available with different Impedance values and offer good Dielectric withstand voltage and minimum insulation resistance.
The dust caps are fastened on the connector ends and are also available with chains/ cords and mounting hardware options. They can be selected based on the connector and type (male/ female). The important specifications, which are required to be considered while selecting the RF cap, are listed below:
Connector Type: RF dust caps can be chosen based on the connector type. For e.g., In order to be compatible with 2.4 mm or SMA connector, an RF cap should be 2.4 mm or SMA, respectively. Other connectors can be S, C, N, UHF, SSMA, SSMC, TNC, etc.
Gender: A ‘male’ connector would require a ‘female’ RF cap and vice-versa.
Chain/ Mounting Option: They are available with a chain or without chain mounting style. With chain provides extra grip to the cap.
Body Material and Finish: Material can be Steel, Brass and finish can be of Gold, Nickel, etc.
