Switch Filter Bank
Switched Filter Banks comprise of a switch and an array of filters in a single package. Typically, it consists of an input switch (SPNT) followed by an N number of filters (with different frequency bands), followed by an output switch (SPNT). Here, N represents the number of channels/filters in the switched filter bank. For example, a 5-channel switched filter consists of 2 SP5T switches and 5 filters in a single module (Figure). Each filter in the filter bank will pass only a certain range of frequency.
Switched filter bank allows the selection of desired frequency band of the input signal to pass to the output by the controller circuit and filters out unwanted disturbance signal and harmonic content generated. It is ideal for use in radio preselector, spectrum analysis, SDR, test equipment, electronic warfare (EW), electronic intelligence (ELINT), direction-finding receivers (DF), band segmentation, and various other applications to select the desired signal and filter out unwanted signals.
Switched Filter Banks can be customized, and can use bandpass filters, low pass filters, cavity filters, stop band filters, SAW filters, etc. Integrating filters and switch components in a module eliminates transitions between circuits, providing optimal matching, which results in overall improvement in the performance of the device.
Important Parameters when Looking for Switched Filter Banks:
- Channels: Represents the number of channels/filters supported by the switched filter bank.
- Frequency: It is the range of frequencies that the switched filter bank will allow to pass through or block.
- Filter Type: The type of filters used in the switched filter bank has.
- Switch Configuration: Represents the switch configuration in the filter bank, such as, SP2T, SP3T, SP5T, etc.
