TCXO Product Search Tool
Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator or TCXO's are used to obtain stability at high working temperatures which is not possible with a typical oscillator. These oscillators are specially designed to handle high temperature operation conditions i.e their oscillation frequency does not vary much even under high temperatures. Normal crystal oscillators tend to become unstable at high temperatures. TCXO's use a temperature compensation network which allows it to operate at high temperatures.
Important Parameters when Selecting a TCXO:
Frequency Range: This is the frequency range that can be provided by the VCXO. As you change the voltage, the frequency moves from the lower end of this range to the higher end.
Stability Performance: The TCXO temperature performance is much better than that of a normal crystal oscillator by approximately 10x to 40x improvement factor. Better than +- 1.5 ppm over a temperature interval of 0 to 70C is hard to obtain as they lie in high precision category and costs starts increasing significantly.
Package: TCXO can be supplied in variety of packages depending upon the way they have been designed and the requirements of the user.
Output Waveform: The most common waveform that originates from the oscillator is clipped sine wave and hence, many TCXO’s are used for driving digital circuits. This is most suitable for a logic circuit after passing it through a logic buffer to make it sufficiently square.
Power Dissipation: This will experience extra power dissipation due to the presence of external circuitry.
