Keysight Strengthens European-Asian Cooperation for 6G Research

Keysight Technologies has joined hands with Universiti Malaya, Malaysia's oldest university under the Horizon Europe-funded 6G-SANDBOX project. This collaboration marks a crucial step in advancing 6G networks, combining European expertise with Asian innovation. The 6G-SANDBOX project, spearheaded by Keysight, aims to revolutionize wireless communication through cutting-edge research and development. By signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Universiti Malaya, the project expands its reach into Asia, fostering international collaboration in the race towards 6G technology.

Michael Dieudonné, coordinator of 6G-SANDBOX at Keysight, highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership: "Our collaboration with Universiti Malaya not only enhances ongoing 6G research but also strengthens ties between Europe and Asia. This partnership sets the stage for broader engagement with other Asian institutions, further enriching the global 6G ecosystem."

The partnership will focus on integrating Universiti Malaya's technological advancements into the 6G-SANDBOX testbeds. This integration aims to facilitate joint research initiatives, trials, and demonstrations of 6G networks. Prof. Ir. Dr. Kaharudin Bin Dimyati, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation at Universiti Malaya, expressed enthusiasm: "We are excited about the opportunity to contribute to 6G development. This collaboration will harness our expertise in telecommunications research to drive innovations in wireless communication."

Muthu Kumaran, General Manager of Wireless Conformance at Keysight, emphasized the potential impact of the collaboration: "This agreement represents a significant milestone in advancing 6G technology globally. Keysight's support will provide crucial measurement expertise and resources to the university and the 6G-SANDBOX project."

Launched in January 2023, the 6G-SANDBOX project is a consortium of 16 partners dedicated to creating a pan-European testbed for 6G experimentation. It aims to develop fully configurable networks that validate new technologies like network automation, cybersecurity, digital twins, and AI. Funded under Horizon Europe, the project aims to accelerate the deployment of 6G networks across Europe.
