Excelwave Introduces Multi-Band Rugged V2X Antennas for Intelligent Transportation Systems

Excelwave Technologies has developed PathEdgeTM V2X antenna solutions to support 5G mobile systems as well as legacy 2G, 3G and 4G systems within one package. The EAM3-698-2700-G-2EAM9-4C4W1G-xx, and EAM6-4C1G1-r-xx antennas support LTE-V, LTE-R and various versions of IEEE 802.11 including 802.11n, 802.11ah, 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11p and 802 HEW, and are also ready for various 5G spectrum plans. PathEdgeTM V2X transport antennas come with heavy duty radome assembly which protects the antenna from harsh environment. Equipped with low-profile and aerial dynamic structure, these designs exceed the requirements of high speed trains and unmanned aerial vehicles, making them ideal for transportation applications.

PathEdgeTM V2X Transport Antenna Solutions with Versatile Modular Scalable Architecture

To improve vehicle safety, many countries are developing automated and connected driving networks in which vehicles digitally exchange information with other vehicles and the road infrastructure. As more devices connect and the frequency spectrum becomes more crowded, ITS frequency bands are being debated in USA, Europe, Australia and other countries. The final assignment is not settled and meanwhile, it could happen that different countries may allocate different ITS frequency bands for different scenarios. PathEdge V2X versatile modular scalable antenna system architecture provides quick custom solutions to help users adapt different regulatory framework such as different frequency band, different MIMO scheme and different global navigation satellite system (GNSS) without major hardware revamp.

Key Features of PathEdgeTM V2X Transport Antenna Solutions

EAM3-698-2700-W-G-2: These series antennas are low profile antennas designed for heavy duty transport applications. The aerodynamic and low profile heavy duty radome assembly meets the application requirements for a variety of vehicles, including cars, buses, trucks, trams, trains and unmanned aerial vehicles. One of its three ports covers 698-2700 MHz full frequency range, which is universal for various applications and supports frequency re-banding. Its second port supports 802.11 2.4/5.8 GHz dual band WiFi and the third port supports GPS with 28 dB built in LNA to improve the GPS receiving sensitivity. This vertically/RHCP-polarized antenna provides a gain of up to 5 dBi and has a VSWR of 2:1.

The unit comes with 3 one feet pigtail connectors with one exit at base plate bottom. The standard connectors are N-female, SMA-male and SMB-male. The antenna is designed for installation on a metal surface with 4 bolts. The thick antenna base plate provides solid reliable attachment to the installation surface as well as secured waterproofing with the supplied heavy duty gasket.

EAM9-4C4W1G-xx: These antennas are low profile antennas that are also designed for transit applications similar to the previous one. The low-profile heavy duty radome assembly meets the requirements for a variety of vehicles, including cars, buses, trucks, trams and trains. Four of its nine ports cover 617-960/1690-6000 MHz full frequency ranges for all cellular networks, and are MIMO ready for 4G and 5G networks. The other 4 ports support 2400-2500/4900-6000 GHz dual band WiFi while the ninth port supports GPS/GNSS with built in 26 dB gain LNA. These vertically-RHCP-polarized antennas provide a gain of 4 dBi and have a VSWR of 2:1.

The unit comes with customizable pigtail lengths and connectors to perfectly fit your installation requirements. The antenna is designed for installation on a solid flat surface with one lock nut and O-ring. The self-adhesive EVA pad on the bottom of the antenna provides additional protection from vibration and water ingress. Only one mounting hole for M25 bolt is needed on the surface.

The EAM6-4C1G1-r-xx series antennas are low profile antennas designed for transit applications. The aerodynamic and low-profile heavy duty radome assembly meets the requirements for a variety of vehicles, including cars, buses, trucks, trams and trains. Four of its six ports cover 617-960/1690-6000 MHz full frequency ranges for all cellular networks and are MIMO ready for 4G and 5G systems. The other port supports GPS/GNSS with built in 26 dB gain LNA. The antennas are vertically/RHCP-polarized and provide a gain of up to 8 dBi and have a VSWR of 2:1.

The unit comes with customizable pigtail lengths and connectors to perfectly fit your installation requirements. EAM6-4C1G1-r-xx comes with an external antenna port which can be used to plug in VHF, UHF, 800 or 900 MHz band rubber duck antenna with SMA male connector for two way radio communications. The antenna is designed for installation on a solid flat surface with one lock-nut and O-ring. The self-adhesive EVA pad on the bottom of the antenna provides additional protection from vibration and water ingress. Only one mounting hole for M25 bolt is needed on the surface.

All the antennas require a DC supply from 3 to 5 V for the GPS/GNSS LNA. These V2X antennas come in ASA or UV-stabilized ABS radome enclosures that are IP65 and IP69K-rated to ensure weatherproof.
