Murata Manufacturing, a global leader in innovative electronics has introduced what it claims to be the world's smallest Cat. M1/NB-IoT module with global certification. The Type 1SC-NTN module has also achieved Skylo FCC & CE L-band certification. This accolade marks the module as the first ultra-compact resin mold product to integrate dual-mode cellular and non-terrestrial network (NTN) capabilities while meeting rigorous standards from an NTN service provider.
The Type 1SC-NTN module incorporates the latest Rel-17 NTN standard, enabling seamless satellite data communication without requiring hardware redesigns. By partnering with Skylo, Murata ensures this module expands satellite connectivity, providing uninterrupted communication and revolutionary solutions tailored for the satellite IoT market.
At its core, the Type 1SC module stands as the world’s smallest LTE Cat M/NB-IoT module with global regulatory and NTN certification. Supporting GPS/GNSS, OpenMCU, and integrated SIM technology, this module caters to a diverse range of applications, from wearables and medical devices to smart meters and M2M communication. Its compact size, cost efficiency, and rapid deployment capabilities offer unmatched advantages to IoT developers.
“Skylo’s technology has enabled us to push the boundaries of connectivity. Our Type 1SC-NTN module addresses the challenges of design complexity and additional hardware costs, opening new horizons for IoT applications,” remarked Mehul Udani, Vice President of Corporate Technology and Innovation at Murata Americas.
Vijay Krishnan, Skylo’s Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, added, “The global certification of the Type 1SC brings exciting possibilities across industries, from asset tracking to agriculture. Our collaboration with Murata reflects our shared commitment to seamless and affordable satellite connectivity.”
Earlier this year, the Type 1SC-NTN was honored with a GLOMO Award for GSMA Foundry Innovation in Mobile Tech at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Recognized for its groundbreaking innovation, the award highlights the module’s transformative impact on the mobile ecosystem.
