HaiLa Technologies, a Montreal-based innovator in low-power wireless semiconductor solutions, has introduced a cutting-edge development platform to revolutionize IoT device design. The new HaiLa EVAL2000 development board is set to empower developers and researchers to create ultra-low-power, connected solutions tailored to industry needs.
Introducing the EVAL2000 Development Platform
The EVAL2000 combines the HaiLa BSC2000 Passive Backscatter on Wi-Fi chip with ST Microelectronics’ STM32U0 ultra-low-power MCU. Designed to leverage existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, the platform provides a flexible, energy-efficient way to integrate sensors. With interfaces like GPIO, I2C, and SPI, developers can easily prototype connected devices with minimal power consumption.
“The EVAL2000 development kit enables rapid prototyping for a wide range of connected sensor applications over Wi-Fi,” said Patricia Bower, VP of Product Management at HaiLa. “By utilizing ST Microelectronics’ lowest-power processor, we’re helping developers achieve unprecedented levels of energy efficiency in IoT device communication.”
Game-Changing Technology for a Sustainable Future
The rising demand for IoT devices underscores the need for sustainable solutions that minimize environmental impact. Traditional Wi-Fi radios in battery-powered devices are significant power consumers, contributing to increased battery waste. HaiLa’s innovative passive backscatter technology drastically reduces radio power requirements, paving the way for greener, longer-lasting, and even battery-free devices.
The EVAL3000, a companion design to the EVAL2000, demonstrates the potential of ambient-powered devices. It operates entirely on harvested light energy, consuming just 60µW with a five-second sensor polling interval. This innovation eliminates the need for batteries, offering a sustainable alternative for IoT systems.
Applications and Availability
The EVAL2000 and EVAL3000 are tailored for various IoT applications, including consumer electronics, smart buildings, logistics, industrial automation, and more. The development kits are available for pre-order, with shipping expected in Q1 2025.
