A Design Tool for Improving the Input Match of Low Noise Amplifiers
High Frequency Electronics, Applied Computational Sciences (ACS)
This article will describe the meth-ods and mecha-nisms for trading excess output return loss for improved input return loss while maintaining low noise figure (NF) in a low noise amplifier (LNA) design. Other meth-ods for improving LNA input match, such as trading noise match for input match or employing series negative feedback [1], sacri- fice gain in the process. While gain reduction may also be the result of trading output match for input match, there is an opportunity for maintaining approximately constant gain during this process, since matching gain lost at the output can be recovered by the improve-ment in input match.
