What is LTE Cat 3?

LTE Cat-3 (LTE Category 3) is an LTE user equipment (UE) category that defines the performance and specifications – such as data rate, power, type of modulation, bandwidth, etc. – of LTE Cat 3 user equipment. LTE Cat 3 UEs support a data rate of 102.0 Mbit/s on the downlink and 51.0 Mbit/s on the uplink with 2 layers for spatial multiplexing in downlink (DL) and no support for 64-QAM in uplink (UL).
