Resonant Inc - a provider of radio frequency (RF) filter solutions developed on a robust intellectual property platform, designed to connect People and Things - has been recognized as one of the three leading BAW (bulk acoustic wave) filter innovators since the start of 2020. The Company has expanded its IP portfolio to over 415 filed or issued US and foreign patents, greater than 265 of which are related to its breakthrough XBAR technology for next generation wireless networks. Since the beginning of 2020, the Company has added over 200 filed or issued patents related to XBAR, 115 of which were added in 2021, representing year-over-year growth of approximately 77 %.
“Resonant has become one of the top three most active companies in BAW patent publication since the start of 2020,” said Paul Leclaire, PhD, Technology and Patent Analyst, MEMS and RF at KnowMade - specialists in the research and analysis of scientific and patent information. “We have also seen the entrance of new players on the XBAR intellectual property segment, in which Resonant has a significant lead.”
“Resonant’s development of XBAR filter technology accelerated significantly in 2021, as highlighted by the growth of our robust patent portfolio,” said George B Holmes, Chairman and CEO of Resonant. “Protecting our XBAR technology has been a primary focus. Since filing the first XBAR patent in 2018, Resonant has amassed 43 issued and allowed XBAR patents in the US in addition to 222 pending XBAR patents in the US and the rest of the world. The emergence of other industry players citing our IP and attempting to file patents in the XBAR segment is a testament to the superiority of our technology in meeting the exacting demands required by 5G, 6G, Wi-Fi 6 & 7, UWB and potentially even mmWave.”
“We believe our XBAR RF filter technology has the potential to be to 5G - what Avago (now Broadcom)’s FBAR RF filter technology was to 4G - a flagship, market leading filter technology. New wireless technologies continue to move to higher frequencies for more bandwidth which will further increase the demand and lengthen the lifetime for XBAR. These significant IP protections are representative of Resonant’s leadership position in the space and, looking ahead, we will continue to bolster the protective moat around our technology with more trade secrets and patent filings,” concluded Holmes.
