Microwave Solutions Introduces Gain Control-Detector-Amplifier Multi-Function Modules from 2 to 18 GHz

Microwave Solutions Inc. (MSI), a leading high-tech electronics design and manufacturing company of solid-state microwave amplifiers, has introduced Gain Control-Detector-Amplifier Multi-Function Modules (MFM). Originally designed for radar and microwave test instrumentation, these MFMs provide gain control, amplification and detection for an integrated automatic level control (ALC) function, all within a single package.

The functions of voltage-controlled gain, amplification and detection can be specified in any order as may be desired by the system designer in order to minimize noise figure or maximize overall dynamic range. Analog control provides for more fine-grain variation than that available from digital control. As an alternative to having to specify and integrate multiple single functions components, these thin-film MFM have reduced size, improved performance and eliminate the headaches with VSWR and internal-function connections. With an operating frequency range from 2 to 18 GHz, these modules provide gain control of more than 20 dB and have an I/O VSWR of 1.5:1. They have an RF power handling capacity of up to 26 dBm, provide a minimum gain of 10.5 dB and have a noise figure of not greater than 5 dB.

These multi-function modules include internal voltage regulation which allows them to operate over DC supplies from +8 to +15 V while consuming not more than 150 mA of current @12 V. They are available with removable SMA-female connectors to provide for coaxial or printed circuit board applications.
