CPI TMD Technologies Introduces New GaN SSPA for Defense, Electronic Warfare and Radar Applications

TMD Technologies a division of Communications & Power Industries (CPI) has introduced a new solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) for defense, electronic warfare and radar applications. The new PTS10224 SSPA is a compact and lightweight unit that operates in the X-Band frequency range of 8.5 to 9.6 GHz. It delivers a typical high power of 400 W (minimum 300 W) at up to 15 percent duty cycle.

Versions of PTS10224

The PTS10224 SSPA is available in two models with slightly different performances. One requires a DC supply of 40 V and the other requires 50 V. The 50 V version offers the best overall efficiency and output power – typically in excess of 400 W. The 40 V version has a power-added efficiency that typically exceeds 20 percent.

GaN Technology and Footprint

High-power GaN transistors have been used for the lightweight construction of the PTS10224 SSPA while maintaining excellent power performance. This design also provides the highest power-to-volume ratio in the market. This SSPA has a 12C interface that allows monitoring of internal currents, voltages and temperatures.

The PTS10224 SSPA weighs just 1.5 kg and is available in a package that measures 197 x 150 x 30 mm (excluding connectors). It has an operating temperature range from 0°C to +60°C. This SSPA is ideal for land, sea and airborne radar applications. It is currently in production for several customers worldwide.
