dSPACE Develops Frequency Converter to Test Automotive Radar Sensors Operating at 60 GHz

dSPACE has developed the DARTS HBC-7066V converter to enable any dSPACE Automotive radar target simulator (DARTS) to test radar sensors operating at 60 GHz. Using this converter, the DARTS enabled target simulator can be operated in the 60 GHz V-band to perform testing for Level 3 automotive in-cabin applications.

For testing radars operating in V-band, the DARTS HBC-7066V converts the radar signal from 60 GHz to an intermediate frequency that is processed by DARTS and then upconverted back to 60 GHz so that it can be received by the radar under test.

A DARTS converter equipped in this way can be used in all key development phases, from chip design to sensor development to end-of-line testing. The high accuracy of DARTS supports functions such as monitoring and detection of drivers and passengers, including children in infant car seats.

Benefits of DARTS Converter

  1. Enables radar target simulation within the V-band from 57 to 64 GHz.
  2. Exceptionally small RF front ends
  3. Ideal for in-cabin applications
  4. Compatible with all DARTS, also those already in the field

In addition, the small size of these converters makes them ideal for convenient in-cabin use. The DARTS HBC-7066V can be combined with different DARTS base units such as the DARTS 9020-S which can simulate short distances of less than 1 meter or the DARTS 9040-G that supports up to 5 GHz of processing bandwidth – as required by the individual in-cabin application.
