The European Microwave Week 2022 (EuMW 2022) was held at the Milano Convention Center, Milan, Italy, from 25-30 September 2022. This six-day event included three cutting-edge conferences, three forums, and one exciting trade and technology exhibition that featured the leading players from across the globe. EuMW 2022 encompassed a wide range of subject areas including microwave, millimeter wave, and sub-millimeter wave systems, antennas, wave propagation, wireless technologies, ICs, semiconductor materials, and its packaging, sensors, and test and measurement. The event also featured courses and seminars that were specifically tailored for industrialists, academics, and researchers and a leading international trade show.

700 W GaN HEMT from 0.9 to 1.4 GHz for Avionics Application

The CLL3H0914L-700 from Ampleon is a GaN RF Power Transistor that operates from 0.9 to 1.4 GHz. It delivers an output power of 700 W with a power gain of 17 dB and has a drain efficiency of more than 58%. The transistor is based on GaN-SiC HEMT technology and offers excellent efficiency, thermal resistance, and ruggedness suitable for short and long-pulse applications. It requires a DC supply of 50 V. Transportable Antenna Test Chamber for 77/79 GHz Automotive Radars

 The R&S®ATS1500C from Rohde & Schwarz is a Compact Antenna Test Chamber for the development, validation, and calibration of automotive radars. It supports in-band OTA measurements of 77/79 GHz radar sensors with apertures up to 30 cm. The chamber consists of a gold-plated parabolic reflector and a two-axis high-accuracy positioner for 3D movements of the DUT. It has been carefully designed to eliminate ghost targets within the chamber during target simulation tests. This test chamber has a 1.3 m2 footprint and employs best-in-class pyramidal absorbers to provide shielding effectiveness of more than 90 dB. The N5247B from Keysight Technologies is a Benchtop Vector Network Analyzer with 2 or 4 ports. It operates from 900 Hz/10 MHz to 67 GHz with a frequency resolution of 1 Hz. This VNA can simplify test stations by replacing racks and stacks of equipment. It can be used to carry out linear and nonlinear device characterization using advanced error correction.  The M9484C Series from Keysight Technologies are 1/2/4-Channel VXG Vector Signal Generators that operates from 9 kHz to 54 GHz. The VNA provides high performance in a compact mm-Wave module utilizing Anritsu’s Nonlinear Transmission Line (NLTL) technology. It has an innovative design that allows the 220 GHz probe to connect directly to the mm-Wave module for accurate, stable on-wafer measurements, thereby avoiding the limits of coaxial connectors at sub-terahertz frequencies. Very Low Loss FR-4 Process Compatible Laminate for mm-Wave Frequencies

 The Astra MT77 laminate materials from Isola have been designed for commercial RF/microwave printed circuit designs. They feature a dielectric constant (Dk) that is stable between -40°C and +140°C at up to W-band frequencies. Test data in the datasheet has been provided up to 20 GHz. Astra MT77 offers an ultra-low dissipation factor (Df) of 0.0017, making it a cost-effective alternative to PTFE and other commercial microwave laminate materials.

The laminates can be used for a wide range of applications including long antennas and radar applications for automobiles, such as adaptive cruise control, pre-crash, blind spot detection, lane departure warning and stop and go systems. Read more.




Space-Grade 12-Bit Dual-Channel DAC with 25 GHz Output Bandwidth

 The EV12DD700 from Teledyne e2v Semiconductors is a 12-Bit Dual-Channel Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) with an output bandwidth of 25 GHz. It has a conversion rate of up to 12 GSps and embeds digital features like interpolation, Digital Up Conversion (DUC), and Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) to reduce the input data rate. This Ka-Band DAC has programmable output modes – Non-Return to Zero (NRZ), Radio Frequency (RF), Twice RF (2RF), and a programmable SINC compensation function. It has an adjustable gain and supports multi-device synchronization. The DAC also includes a digital up-converter (with four interpolation stages, plus sinc compensation).

The EV12DD700 requires a DC supply from 1.175-3.3 V and consumes less than 8.9 W of power. The NT-18G-50G-1C-C from Maury Microwave is an Automated Impedance Tuner optimized for load-pull measurements from DC to 65 GHz. It supports 5G FR2 frequencies and provides a typical matching range with a VSWR up to 40:1 @ 28, 39 GHz. The tuner can handle up to 10 W of CW input power and has an insertion loss of 0.5 dB. The Morpheus II from Filtronic is an E-band RF Transceiver that provides a turn-key solution for carrier-grade mobile XHaul applications. This transceiver has integrated Tx/Rx modules that operate from 71-76 / 81-86 GHz and features a diplexer that can be interfaced with an antenna. It contains all transmit and receive functions necessary for the RF section of an E-band link and provides a simple connection to a high data rate full-duplex modem. This transceiver provides a saturated output power of 27 dBm and has a low phase noise of -112 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz. It can support a data rate of up to 10 Gbps and spectrally efficient 256QAM modulation.
