Drone to Supply Cellular Signal Coverage in Emergencies

Cellular DroneCellAntenna has launched a rapid deployable Drone Tethered System (TDS) that can supply cellular and public safety signal coverage in emergency situations or special events. The TDS can be deployed within minutes replacing downed towers after natural disasters, or supplying immediate mobile communication to mobile command centers. TDS can be used as a cost effective temporary communications tower at special events.

At the core of CellAntenna’s TDS technology is the ability to simultaneously power multi-rotor drones, supplying an effective signal level to the omni or directional drone mounted antennas and doing so with a light weight tether and power supply system. Drones that are battery operated cannot be relied upon due to their inability to remain airborne for periods of time greater than several minutes and cannot carry the load of the tether and communications equipment. The TDS can have uninterrupted flight time exceeding 24 hours, and remain on station in critical emergency situations. An emergency battery on board the TDS provides return to home capability as a redundant power source to allow for extraordinary conditions. TDS has already been tested in weather conditions with winds of 35 miles per hour.

The TDS has been fully tested for use with CellAntenna’s CA-BRAVO 7080 Dual Band public safety emergency repeater and the CA-Alpha 3G emergency Cellular repeater systems, as well as CellAntenna’s Guardian Managed Access service for government agencies controlling cell phone activities.
