Amplitech has introduced a 5G Open Radio Unit (O-RU) for sub-6 GHz deployments from 2.496 to 2.69 GHz and 3.4 to 4.0 GHz. The A1001-RU-1 module is available in a surface-mount package and is suitable for use in high / low-speed networks, IoT deployment, 5G backhaul deployment, and small cell deployment applications.
The A1001-RU-1 module has three main functions:
- The Radio Frequency Processing Unit (RFPU): This includes the antennas, high power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers, duplexers, and other functions. It also contains highspeed data converters such as analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and digital-to-analog converters (DACs).
- The Digital Processing Unit (DPU): This supports the eCPRI and IEEE 1914.3 capability. The processing is performed in a field programmable gate array (FPGA).
- High-speed Ethernet communication: It is the interface to the rest of the O-RAN system and the Open Distribution Unit (O-DU).
The A1001-RU-1 utilizes GaN power amplifiers along with 64 phased array elements (8 x 4 x 2) for digital beamforming. It has band preselect filtering, noise figure reduction at reception and provides a total Tx EIRP of 43 dBm. The module is compliant with O-RAN/Keysight O-DU and supports eCPRI and IEEE 1914.3 (NGFI). It also supports IEEE 1588 and Synchronous Ethernet.
Applications of the A1001-RU-1 Module:
- Public or Private Networks
- High Speed & Low Latency Networks
- Internet of Things Deployments
- Small Cell Deployments
- Large-Scale Urban 5G Deployments
- Back Haul
