Ironwood Electronics has recently introduced a new BGA socket for the 35 x 35 mm package size, with a 34x34 array and 1 mm pitch. The GT-BGA-2029 socket operates up to 75 GHz with an insertion loss of less than 1 dB. It has been designed to dissipate few watts using compression screw and can be customized to handle up to 100 watts of power with a modified fin design on top of the screw with the addition of an axial flow fan.
The contact resistance of the socket is typically 30 milliohms per pin. It can mounted on the target PCB with no soldering, and uses very little real estate allowing capacitors/resistors to be placed close by. Other passive components can be placed on the other side of the PCB board by creating custom cutouts in the stiffener plate. The socket is constructed with a clamshell lid which incorporates a quick insertion method so that IC's can be changed out quickly. It is very easy to use, all you have to do is place the device inside the socket, close the lid by latching and apply downward pressure by turning compression screw.
The GT-BGA-2029 socket is constructed with high performance and low inductance elastomer contactor. It can be used at temperatures from -55 C to +160 C. It is priced at $3808 /Unit.
