Sivers Semiconductors, a prominent player in the semiconductor industry, has achieved a significant milestone with its business unit, Sivers Wireless, being awarded a substantial €1.2 million grant from HORIZON Europe. This funding, approximately 14 MSEK, comes as part of a larger consortium dedicated to advancing millimeter Wave (mmWave) technology for the development of cutting-edge 6G technology.
The grant, covering an impressive 90% of Sivers' funding for the 6G project, is slated to extend over 3.5 years. Notably, the European Union will disburse 50% of the funding before the year-end, emphasizing the urgency and importance of the project.
Sivers Wireless has been entrusted with a crucial role in the project – the design of the below-100-GHz frontend. Additionally, the company will collaborate on the co-design of a wideband off-chip antenna, reinforcing its commitment to pushing the boundaries of 6G technology.
Commenting on this achievement, Anders Storm, the CEO of Sivers Semiconductors, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "While there is still some time until 6G will come to fruition, it is a great opportunity to take a leadership role in the 6G race with a solidly funded project within a strong European ecosystem." He highlighted the potential spillover benefits for their existing 5G and SATCOM mmWave products, emphasizing the strategic importance of the project.
This recognition by HORIZON Europe underscores Sivers Semiconductors' extensive experience in designing and manufacturing state-of-the-art mmWave RF technology. The company aims to be a key contributor within the consortium, striving to make 6G technology widely available in the future. The anticipated result is the enablement of an impressive array of 6G environmental and sustainable use cases that will undoubtedly enhance the quality of life for people worldwide.
As the 6G landscape begins to take shape, Sivers Semiconductors stands at the forefront, poised to lead the industry in groundbreaking technological advancements. This venture not only cements their position as innovators but also positions them strategically to shape the future of telecommunications and connectivity.
