CCS Uses Sivers Semiconductors’ mmWave Radio/Antenna Module for its Gigabit Fixed Wireless Access Solution

Cambridge Communication System (CCS), based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully integrating the CCS Metnet 60G Fixed Wireless Access System with Sivers Semiconductors' cutting-edge 60 GHz mmWave radio/antenna solution BFM06010. The collaboration addresses key challenges in building hybrid fibre-wireless networks, focusing on the 60 GHz market for fixed wireless access (FWA) and mobile backhaul.

The CCS Metnet 60G technology enables operators and service providers to rapidly deliver Gigabit services to residential and enterprise customers – from bustling urban centers to remote rural villages. Metnet 60G consists of 12Gbps nodes with an all-round multi-radio view plus 1Gbps Metnet CPEs, which connect autonomously and intelligently, forming a flexible mesh network powered by CCS’s advanced self-organizing and self-healing software-defined networking (SDN) software.

Challenges:

  • Assist operators in constructing hybrid fibre-wireless networks with the lowest overall total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Target the 60GHz market for fixed wireless access (FWA) and mobile backhaul.
  • Design a comprehensive, best-in-class 60 GHz solution.
  • Accelerate time-to-market.
  • Achieve scalable business and manufacturing processes.

 Solution:

  • Utilization of CCS software integrated with Sivers Semiconductors' 60GHz mmWave radio/antenna solution, along with Renesas IDT modem and Blu Wireless IPR-Metnet 60G.
  • formulation of a sales and manufacturing agreement with ADTRAN, facilitating outreach to hundreds of service providers globally.

Results:

  • Maximization of full-fibre service reaches the lowest possible total cost of ownership.
  • Successful completion of the engineering project was achieved through close collaboration between the engineering and management teams of CCS and Sivers Semiconductors.
  • Attainment of the highest capacity per node, utilization of all six channels in the 57–71 GHz band, and optimal range performance.

Executive Chairman of CCS, Martin Harriman, remarked, "As you would expect with any engineering project, building our hardware platform and achieving integration with our Metnet software was not without its challenges, but the strong working partnership and close collaboration between the engineering and management teams of our two companies has always found solutions to overcome these."

This successful integration positions CCS and Sivers Semiconductors at the forefront of delivering advanced solutions for 60GHz networks, offering enhanced efficiency and performance for service providers globally.
