Avcom Introduces Two New L-Band Satellite Beacon Receivers Based on Software-Defined Radio Technology

Avcom introduces the EVO-RBR-2290A and  EVO-RBR-3040A rackmount L-Band beacon receivers. The receivers are based on the state-of-the-art software-defined radio technology developed to meet today's challenging SATCOM earth station requirements. Avcom's reputation of providing the SATCOM market with reliable and cost-effective ground-station equipment has advanced with the addition of these high-performance receiver products.

With operation over the full band of 900 to 2200 MHz (400 to 3000 MHz for the -3040A) these versatile receivers provide fast lock and secure tracking of CW SATCOM beacon signals as well as the flexibility to lock on modulated carriers; a feature unique in the industry, and which allow the user to operate with various LEOMEO and GEO constellations.

The EVO-RBR-2290A and EVO-RBR-3040A beacon receivers are based on Avcom’s software-defined-radio technology platform designed to exceed today’s performance challenges. The receiver is intended for antenna systems applications required to operate under challenging conditions. Avcom’s newest beacon receiver technology provides excellent performance by employing high-performance DSP, and FPGAs. Integrators can now install a full-function beacon receiver into systems operating in austere and rugged environments as well as standard teleport and earth station indoor environments.

Communication with the receivers is achieved via ethernet and Avcom’s Graphical User Interface, the EVO GUI software allowing them to be controlled and monitored from the user's computer and accessed remotely from various locations as required. It provides a feature-rich set of functions to lock on and provide a DC output voltage proportionate to the received satellite beacon signal. The receiver hardware can also be easily integrated into systems utilizing most types of NMS software with API protocol support available from Avcom. The system can also be accessed via a customer-implemented POSIX-Compliant API. The source code is available from Avcom.
