InnoPhase IoT Launches Matter v1.2 Platform to Enable Interoperable Smart Home Devices

InnoPhase IoT, a fabless semiconductor company specializing in ultra-low power Wi-Fi IoT solutions and an ST Authorized Partner, has announced the availability of Matter v1.2 platform combining STM32U5 and its Talaria TWO™ Wi-Fi solution. The integration of STM32U5 and Talaria TWO, announced previously, enabled ultra-low power sensor-to-cloud IoT solutions. Now, adding Matter v1.2 support will enable smart-home devices with interoperability across multiple ecosystems, facilitating easy setup and operation and ultimately driving a wider selection of home automation device solutions for the consumer. The combined solution will be demonstrated at ST Wireless Technology Tour on Thursday, August 22, in Santa Clara, CA.

"The smart home remains a very fragmented landscape and Matter is a critical industry effort to unlock more value. Parks Associates research shows 54 million internet households in the US have at least one smart home device and consumers now have an average of 17 connected devices in their home," said Jennifer Kent, VP Research, at IoT Research firm Parks Associates. "Product developers seek power-efficient Wi-Fi solutions that can help get their next-generation Matter-enabled solutions to market quickly."

The STM32U5 MCU 32-bit microcontroller addresses today's demanding power/performance requirements. The MCU integrates the Cortex-M33 core running at 160 MHz, with up to 4 MB of flash memory and 2.5 MB of SRAM, enabling the highest performance for ultra-low power 32-bit MCUs, while reducing power by 90% thanks to proprietary features and consequently extending battery life.

InnoPhase IoT's Matter over Wi-Fi stack offloads both the Matter protocol processing and cloud connectivity onto the Talaria TWO SoC. This leaves greater compute power and memory on the MCU which developers can harness for applications. The complete Software Development Kit (SDK) has a scalable architecture, with a HAPI interface between Talaria TWO and STM32 MCUs for seamless integration. Reference applications for rapid prototyping and development supporting Matter v1.2, Amazon's AWS, and Microsoft Azure platforms are included. A Matter over low-power Wi-Fi approach provides a direct connect to the cloud/internet without going through a bridge border router, simplifying the network topology and eliminating costs.

"Building on our ultra-low power Wi-Fi foundation, InnoPhase IoT is committed to delivering an exceptional IoT user experience. Providing platforms with Matter v1.2 certification is a key element of this multifaceted approach. It guarantees interoperability across different vendor ecosystems, key for smart home consumers," said Wiren Perera, InnoPhase IoT President and COO. "Our collaboration with ST has spanned many years and now multiple processors. We are proud of our role in integrating ST's lowest power MCU, the STM32U5, with our ultra-low-power Wi-Fi/BLE Matter v1.2 device solutions that enable rapid time-to-development for smart-home applications such as environmental monitoring, appliances, white goods, and advanced human-machine interface (HMI)," Perera added.

Talaria TWO Wi-Fi/BLE modules are certified with the Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG and have attained global regulatory certification. The Talaria TWO INP3014 Evaluation Kit that seamlessly integrates with STM32U5 series development boards is currently available with Matter v1.2 support. The SDK 3.1 featuring reference Matter application profiles is available for download at InnoPhase IoT and ST Microelectronics Partner websites.
