Farran Technology will be showcasing one of their most advanced innovations at this year’s European Microwave Week (EuMW) in Paris in booth number #814C. At their booth they will feature the FMCW-06 FMCW Radar Front End, designed by their Senior Design Engineer Hugh Hancock, for operational frequencies ranging from 110 to 150 GHz and the FCE-06 Communication Extender (FCE) up/down converter module, also covering the 110 to 150 GHz range. The cutting-edge technology of these products promises to redefine what’s possible in radar systems with its superior performance and versatility.
Features of FMCW-06 FMCW Radar Front End
- Unmatched Performance in a Compact Package: The FMCW-06 FMCW Radar Front end is engineered to offer extremely wide bandwidth TX signals that allow for improved range resolution, all within a compact modular design. This sleek packaging doesn’t compromise on performance; instead, it enhances it by combining high efficiency with ease of integration.
- Advanced Signal Processing: At the core of this radar front end is an internal VCO that can be driven by a function generator. This signal is upconverted to generate the TX signal as well as provide the local oscillator (LO) for the receive mixer. The intermediate frequency (IF) signal, derived from this setup, is meticulously conditioned for optimal gain and signal purity. This process results in an industry-leading noise figure that sets our technology apart from competitors.
- Versatile Applications: The FMCW-06 is versatile enough to be used across various critical applications. Whether it’s for motorway traffic management, intelligent transportation systems, runway foreign object detection, or aircraft collision avoidance, our radar system delivers exceptional performance. Its ability to operate at frequencies up to 150 GHz makes it ideal for high-resolution and high-accuracy applications.
- Customizable Solutions: This FMCW Radar Front End is available in custom configurations to fit customer’s specific needs. From custom output power levels ranging from +10 to +25 dBm to flexible integration options with your swept FMCW source and IF post-processing systems, Farran is committed to providing tailored solutions.
- Lightweight and Efficient: Despite its high performance, the FMCW-06 is designed to be lightweight and energy-efficient. This not only helps in reducing the overall system weight but also ensures lower power consumption, which is crucial for many field applications where power availability can be a constraint.
- Comprehensive User Support: To ensure customers get the most out of their technology, each product comes with a detailed user manual. This manual covers installation, operation, and troubleshooting, providing them with the resources they need to achieve peak performance. Farran highly recommends reviewing the manual before first use and consulting it for any future needs.
FCE-06 Communication Extender
Farran offers the FCE Series of up/down converters for use as frequency-extended communication test equipment. The FCE-06 covers the 110-150 GHz band of interest for 6G Communications. It is a unique, dedicated Transmit/ Receive system for a 6G millimeter-wave frequency range.
“We are delighted to have released this product, which has been designed with Farran’s extensive expertise in mmWave to the fore. Combined with our deep knowledge of up & down converter systems to work with industry leading test equipment, we expect the FCE product family to help our customers extend the range of their existing test equipment & meet the challenges that the development of 6G presents,” said Michael Crowley, Principal Engineer at Farran.
Features of FCE-06:
- WR-06, 110-150 GHz band operation.
- Enhanced IF bandwidth for wideband modulation.
- Single electronically tunable module.
- Cost-effective, reduces development and test time.
- External power and low noise amplifiers, as well as band-pass filters available.
