Microchip Technology Inc. has introduced a new family of Voltage-Controlled SAW Oscillators (VCSOs) designed to deliver ultra-low phase noise for mission-critical radar and instrumentation systems. The 101765 VCSO series, available at 320 MHz and 400 MHz, is aimed at enhancing the performance of radar systems and other high-precision applications like Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) systems.
Microchip’s 101765-320-A VCSO delivers exceptional phase noise performance of -166 dBc at 10 kHz offset, with a phase noise floor of -182 dBc. This ultra-low phase noise is essential for improving signal clarity and accuracy in radar systems, helping to enhance detection capabilities in sensitive environments.
The VCSOs are housed in a compact 1-inch × 1-inch hermetic Kovar package, making them ideal for applications where Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (SWaP-C) are critical factors. With supply voltages ranging from 4.75V to 15.75V and a power-efficient current draw of 111 mA, the devices provide a reliable timing solution.
The 101765 family is optimized for radar, military, and defense applications that demand high precision and reliability. For systems requiring stringent reliability standards, such as aerospace and military applications, the VCSOs are available with MIL-PRF-38534 screening. This ensures that only the most reliable components are used in environments where failure is not an option.
“With these new VCSOs, Microchip continues to provide high-performance timing products at competitive prices for the aerospace and defense markets,” said Leon Gross, Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s Discrete Products Group. "Our customers can depend on us for their timing needs, along with a wide range of components including FPGAs, MPUs, MCUs, and RF solutions."
The VCSO devices are supported by the 101765-320-A-N-S-TB and 101765-400-B-N-S-TB test boards to enable customers to test the parts during the design phase. Click here to learn more about these products.
