BAE Systems has been awarded a follow-on contract by the U.S. Army to enhance its Multi-Class Soft Kill System (MCSKS), a state-of-the-art electronic warfare countermeasure designed to protect ground combat vehicles from guided missiles and other threats. This initiative further solidifies BAE Systems' leadership in providing innovative solutions for modern battlefield challenges.
A Shield for Modern Combat Vehicles
Under the contract, BAE Systems will advance its Stormcrow™ and TERRA RAVEN™ laser-based countermeasure systems. These systems represent the next evolution of the U.S. Army’s Active Protection System (APS) by neutralizing threats before they can harm vehicles, while allowing crews to conserve kinetic countermeasures for critical situations.
“Today’s combat vehicles require protection systems that are both efficient and adaptable,” said Jared Belinsky, Director of Integrated Survivability Solutions at BAE Systems. “With the MCSKS, we’re building an Intrepid Shield™ to safeguard platforms and ensure mission success in complex battlespaces.”
Cutting-Edge Defense Technology
BAE Systems’ MCSKS leverages advanced electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) and radio-frequency (RF) technologies. These systems deliver layered defense capabilities, featuring:
- Compact and Modular Design: Small, lightweight, and rugged for versatile deployment.
- Sophisticated Sensors and Emitters: Multi-function capabilities for superior threat detection and response.
- Adaptability: Designed to perform under diverse conditions, including low visibility and challenging terrain.
The technologies also offer enhanced situational awareness, helping military personnel detect and neutralize threats across the electromagnetic spectrum.
Proven Expertise in Combat Protection
BAE Systems has a longstanding reputation for delivering effective and innovative survivability equipment for U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) platforms. The MCSKS program builds on the company’s success with the Advanced Layered Soft Kill System (ALSKS) and Layered Soft Kill System (LSKS), both of which have demonstrated exceptional performance in capability tests.
The company's cutting-edge vehicle protection systems are developed at its Austin, Texas facility, supported by research from the FAST Labs™ in Merrimack, New Hampshire.
