Keysight Enables Innovation with Advanced EDA Software for U.S. Microelectronics Hubs

Keysight Technologies to provide its electronic design automation (EDA) software to six of eight hubs within the U.S. Microelectronics Commons initiative. This collaboration supports a $2 billion federal effort under the CHIPS and Science Act to advance domestic semiconductor prototyping and workforce development. The agreement solidifies Keysight's role as a pivotal player in fostering lab-to-fab transitions, ensuring U.S. leadership in microelectronics innovation.

Keysight’s Role in the Microelectronics Commons

The Microelectronics Commons, established in 2023, is designed to bridge the gap between research and commercialization in microelectronics, uniting academia and industry. By offering its industry-leading EDA tools, Keysight empowers researchers and engineers to achieve first-pass design success across the entire design cycle.

Keysight’s EDA software, known for its advanced simulation capabilities, provides a critical edge in designing precise digital twins. These tools enable engineers to seamlessly correlate results between simulation, design, and testing. Furthermore, Keysight’s IP management platform helps researchers securely manage design data, ensuring traceability and protecting intellectual property.

Centralized EDA Infrastructure for Collaboration

The Midwest Microelectronics Consortium (MMEC) spearheaded efforts through the Cross Hub Enablement Solution (CHES) Working Group to centralize EDA infrastructure for six hubs. This approach allows streamlined access to Keysight’s tools, including additional test and measurement solutions. The infrastructure facilitates collaboration, driving projects from concept to commercialization.

Paul Colestock, Director of Commercial Innovation at MMEC, praised Keysight's contributions: "Keysight's design, test, and modeling data management solution is essential for successful lab-to-fab transitions. Their digital twinning capabilities will play a crucial role in the Microelectronics Commons ecosystem."

National Impact of the Partnership

Keysight's involvement aligns with broader efforts to revitalize the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem. Mark Pierpoint, Keysight’s Vice President of Strategic Innovation and Partnerships, emphasized: "The Microelectronics Commons is vital to ensuring U.S. semiconductor competitiveness. Our EDA solutions, combined with world-class test and measurement capabilities, will help accelerate technological maturity for researchers and engineers."

Nilesh Kamdar, Keysight’s Design and Verification Business Unit Lead, added: "This agreement underscores our commitment to fostering innovation in microelectronics and supporting national security and economic growth."

Advancing U.S. Microelectronics Leadership

As the U.S. government and private sector invest in strengthening the domestic semiconductor industry, collaborations like Keysight’s with the Microelectronics Commons are key. By providing cutting-edge tools and expertise, Keysight ensures the U.S. remains at the forefront of global innovation.
