Hirose Electric Introduces Microminiature RF Connectors for High-Density PCB Boards

Hirose has developed micro RF connectors that feature a low-profile of only 1.2 mm when mated. Offering design flexibility, the space-saving K.FL2 Series connector is available in two versions - An RF cable mating type and an FPC-to-board mating type. Both versions support high-density mounting to further save valuable PCB real estate.

The micro RF connectors deliver excellent high-frequency performance and have low voltage standing wave ratios (VSWR) of 1.3:1 from 0 to 3 GHz, 1.5:1 from 3 to 6 GHz and 1.6:1 from 6 to 8 GHz. Compatible with pick-and-place mounting, the K.FL2 Series connector is commonly used in consumer applications including laptop computers, smart phones, tablets, VR/AR glasses, routers and more.

The K.FL2 Series utilize a tapered design for easy mating with significantly reduced insertion force. A polarity key makes it easy to identify the mounting direction, and a clear tactile click confirms proper mating. A robust, integrated plug design prevents plug deformation during un-mating while delivering high retention force. Solder wicking and flux penetration are prevented via a nickel barrier at the shell and contact.

“Hirose continues our tradition of downsizing connector footprints while increasing performance and reliability to meet application specific demands,” said Pete Lais, Assistant Vice President of Product Management for Hirose Electric Americas. “The K.FL2 Series micro RF connector not only features a space-saving design and high-density mounting capability, but also offers design flexibility to better support application requirements.”
