ON Semiconductor Introduces Transceivers for the Sub One Gigahertz Bands

AX5043ON Semiconductor has expanded its wireless portfolio to include high performance, low power consumption, sub 1 gigahertz (GHz) RF devices through the acquisition of AXSEM AG. The devices enable wireless connectivity and support advanced functionality in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), automatic meter reading, home automation, sensor networks and satellite communication markets.

The AX5043 narrow-band, ultra-low power RF transceiver delivers class-leading performance with a unique combination of ultra-low power consumption for transmit and receive operations along with high sensitivity and high selectivity. Its programmable radio architecture enables configuration to many wireless communication standards and protocols. Customers may also implement proprietary protocols.

The AX8052Fxx family of RF-Microcontrollers are specifically designed to enable one chip radio solutions for all levels of complexity. The AX8052F143 provides an ultra-low power single chip solution with flexibility appropriate for the IoT market and is also compatible with the paging standards WM-BUS, POCSAG and FLEX, while the AX8052F151 is the solution for Sub-1 GHz ZigBee and 6LoWPAN.

AX-SigfoxThe AX-Sigfox and AX-Sigfox-API are one chip solutions for a node on the Sigfox network. Sigfox addresses the need for nationwide coverage and ultra-low power consumption for transmitting and receiving the smallest amounts of data that cannot be addressed by established standards such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Long Term Evolution (LTE). The AX-Sigfox device is fully programmed for immediate operation while the AX-Sigfox-API chip allows the user to add additional software.

In addition, development tools enable simple and fast implementation of wireless communications solutions. The DVK-2 and F143 Mini DVK kits are supported by a suite of software tools consisting of code generators for full RF application C-code and an integrated development environment with source code debugger and free C-compiler.

ON Semiconductor currently offers a wide range of low power, fully integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions to support the implementation of wireless networks with a minimal number of components. One such example is the NCS36510 2.4 GHz RF transceiver which integrates RAM and FLASH memory for data and program storage respectively. The company supports a long list of key industry protocols and standards through its devices including: SigFox, KNX, EnOcean, ZigBee Smart Energy, ZigBee Stacks, WirelessHart, 6LoWPAN, and Thread.
