Peregrine Semiconductor has introduced the UltraCMOS PE44820, an 8-bit digital phase shifter that covers a 358.6-degree phase range. This monolithic, digitally controlled product is easy to design-in and delivers exceptional phase accuracy and high linearity. Supporting a frequency range of 1.7 to 2.2 GHz, the PE44820 is ideal for optimizing the transmission phase angle in the wireless infrastructure and radar markets. This phase shifter is easy to design-in, requires little PCB space and has flexible programming. It provides reliable and repeatable RF performance to applications such as antenna beamforming, distributed antenna systems (DAS) and phased-array antennas.
Compared to competing solutions, this digital phase shifter offers a fuller phase range, better phase accuracy, lower root mean square (RMS) phase and amplitude error, higher linearity and a larger temperature range. The PE44820 covers a phase range of 358.6 degrees in 1.4-degree steps and has exceptional phase accuracy of ±3 degrees. The phase shifter has low RMS phase error of 1-degree and low RMS amplitude error of 0.1dB. Linearity of 60 dBm IIP3 ensures the phase shifter does not degrade the array transceiver’s linearity. An integrated digital control interface supports both serial and parallel programming of the phase setting. Built on Peregrine’s UltraCMOS® technology, the PE44820 has an extended temperature range up to 105-degrees Celsius and a wide power supply range from 2.3 to 5.5V. It measures 5 x 5 x 0.85 mm and is available in a 32-lead QFN package.
Samples, evaluation kits and volume-production parts are available now. The PE44820 is $3.75 each for 10k-quantity orders and $3.41 for 25k-quantity orders.
The PE44820 is also capable of extended frequency operation from 1.1 to 3.0 GHz for narrow band applications. An application note, Optimizing the Phase Accuracy of the PE44820 Phase Shifter, explains this capability. This application note can be downloaded from the PE44820 product page on Peregrine’s website.
