Advantech Wireless has announced the launch of the second generation Gallium Nitride (GaN) based S-band power amplifiers that have been designed for air traffic control radar systems. The S-band solid state pulse amplifier operates in the 2.7 to 2.9 GHz band and replaces traveling wave tubes with solid state technology. GaN technology reduces power consumption and operating costs due to its very high reliability.
Recent tests have shown that the amplifier also produces a cleaner pulse due to the system’s linearity, resulting in better range and resolution of a radar system. The entire 10kW system has built in redundancy for all active modules, which allows higher reliability and availability, due to its exceptionally high MTBF.
These new GaN based SSPAs for Radars exhibit very high spectral purity, linearity, and low phase noise. The Radar pulse processing allows for very high pulse fidelity and sharpness, which translates in longer ranges, and higher detection capabilities.
Advantech Wireless will be an Exhibitor at the Satellite Show at National Harbor from 8-10 March, 2016.
