AtlanTecRF launched their new RNG range of Broadband Noise Generators featuring Ethernet Control. Designed to form a built-in test facility in permanent installations of communications equipment or production test set-ups, these high output instruments operate at a frequency range from 10 Hz to 18 GHz in standard configurations with a capability to go beyond 40 GHz for custom applications.
The nineteen standard models have total noise output power in the range -20 dBm to +30 dBm with noise densities from -122 dBc/Hz through to -13 dBc/Hz. Output level can be controlled either locally with convenient and easy to interpret increase/decrease front panel buttons and LCD readout or via ethernet with remote GUI derived from an mBed within the instrument.
As an example, model RNG-1613 provides +10 dBm total noise power over a frequency band of 10 MHz to 2500 MHz and has the option of a 30 dB or 60 dB attenuation range with a highest level noise density of -84 dBc/Hz. This particular unit is therefore suitable for signal/noise measurements in most cellular bands as well as satellite communications L-band and also baseband frequencies for many radar and countermeasures applications.
Among the many standard options is the facility for passing the signal under test through the instrument where it is combined with the white gaussian noise which can then be adjusted in amplitude. Another important option is the output mute which, operated remotely, allows the instrument to be on standby for short term tests as needed.
The RNG series are all designed for 19” rack mount installation with 80-240 V, 50/60 Hz input, although portable and battery powered versions can also be supplied.
