Sequans Communications has announced an agreement to deliver LTE Cat 1 technology and products to T-Mobile’s machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) customers. Their Calliope LTE Cat 1 chipset platform, which uniquely supports VoLTE and enables a wide range of industrial and consumer IoT applications, including asset tracking, alarm systems, telematics devices, retail applications, smart utility meters and more, is now certified and available for use on T-Mobile’s network.
Both companies prepared for the launch of LTE Cat 1 IoT devices on T-Mobile’s network by conducting a successful Cat 1 network and device trial on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network last year. They were the first chipmaker to launch and commercialize LTE Cat 1 technology, and the Calliope chipset and IoT-ready module are now certified and available for use on T-Mobile’s network.
T-Mobile’s focus is listening to, and helping solve, wireless customers’ pain points – for IoT customers means delivering a future-proof network migration path from 2G to 4G LTE. The Sequans LTE Cat 1 technology, paired with T-Mobile’s fast, nationwide 4G LTE network, will help meet the industry-leading cost and power benefits that our customers demand for the IoT and M2M applications of today and tomorrow.
Sequans operator-approved LTE Cat 1 chipset platform, Calliope, is a LTE chipset solution that is highly optimized for M2M and IoT applications. It features Category 1 throughput up to 10 Mbps, ultra-low power consumption, and supports VoLTE and location-based services. Their Calliope-based modules for T-Mobile’s network are available to M2M and IoT customers now at affordable pricing based on customers’ scale and needs.
