u-blox to Develop Modules for Globally Unlicensed Bands

Ingenu, a company that has developed RPMA, the Internet of Things leading machine-exclusive connectivity solution has partnered with u-blox to enable the next generation of Ingenu’s patented RPMA (Random Phase Multiple Access) technology to serve global opportunities in the Internet of Things (IoT) market.

The two companies have agreed that u-blox will develop and manufacture products supporting RPMA technology. It is a low-power wide-area channel access method used exclusively for machine-to-machine (M2M) communication on the Internet of Things (IoT). And, because it utilizes the globally available 2.4 GHz ISM band, one radio module can serve applications throughout the globe, providing the scale and cost benefits to enable partners with a profitable option to bring IoT solutions to market. The u-blox modules will feature extended temperature ranges and will allow for simple integration of positioning services.

With headquarters in Thalwil, Switzerland, u-blox develops and markets wireless modules and semiconductors for the automotive, industrial and consumer markets. Their nested form factor allows customers to maintain form factor and software continuity to easily upgrade their products with each new generation of modules. They are focused on connecting devices to the Internet of Things and optimizing applications for machine-type communications, which enhances the synergies of the partnership between the two companies.

The demand for low-power, wide-area network technologies is growing across the globe. Ingenu has developed this technology to support growth of unlicensed spectrum technologies, to address the needs of this market. They first module is expected to launch in Q4 2016.
