CAE, a state-of-the-art system supplier of environmental monitoring systems, has partnered with Sivers IMA to develop radar modules for their Level Probing Radar (LPR) Hydrometer product. Under this partnership Sivers IMA's FMCW radar technology was used by CAE to provide a state-of-the-art LPR Hydrometer solution.
The LPR is now available in the market, both in a version for measuring water level in streams, rivers and reservoirs, as well as in a version for wave measurement applications. It is characterised by a reduced measuring cone, low power consumption, compact design and absence of parts immersed in water. It has no mechanical moving parts and is therefore extremely robust. The LPR is designed for use in a wide range of situations.
According to Sivers IMA this design win is yet another proof point that radar becomes more and more commonly used in many different applications. Using radar for measuring distance, speed or positioning is receiving more and more traction within the use cases that Sivers IMA is addressing.
The LPR prototype has been finally approved in 2015 and the sensor has received the ETSI and the FCC certifications during 2016. Following the beginning of the industrial production, Sivers IMA has recently received a first relevant order of radar front ends for the LPR units. The components will be delivered in in two batches, one in December 2016 and the other one in January 2017.
