Wi-Fi BAW Filters from Qorvo Expand Range for Smart Home Applications

Qorvo has introduced new Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) filters that significantly expand Wi-Fi range and coverage in smart home and enterprise applications. The products enable the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the ISM band, delivering more capacity and resulting in improved service quality for consumers, organizations and internet service providers.

The new bandedge and coexistence Wi-Fi filters leverage Qorvo’s BAW technology. They address the stringent thermal challenges of multi-user multiple-input/multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems, without compromising harmonic compliance and emissions performance. This is critical to achieving reliable coverage across the full allocated spectrum. They also offer significant size reductions to aid designers in creating smaller, more attractive end-user devices for homes and office environments.

Bandedge and coexistence filters improve quality of service of Wi-Fi systems. Bandedge filters allow systems to maintain maximum power and capacity for all channels in the Wi-Fi band. Qorvo is the only supplier of bandedge BAW filters at 2.4 GHz. Coexistence filters, separate Wi-Fi signals from adjacent LTE signals to avoid interference. When maximum power for all Wi-Fi channels and LTE coexistence is required, both filters can be used together.

Qorvo’s new BAW filters for Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) include the following:

885136 - 2.4 GHz RF BAW Filter - Wi-Fi Band Edge

Qorvo's 885136 is a high-performance, high power Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) band-pass filter with extremely steep skirts, simultaneously exhibiting low loss in the WiFi band and high rejection in the band-edge and adjacent LTE /TD-LTE bands.

The 885136 enables Wi-Fi range extension in bandedge channels and FCC regulatory compliance. It is also used to resolve coexistence of WiFi and LTE signals within the same device or in close proximity to one another. Its unique power handling capability allows for implementation into high performance high power access points and small cell base stations. It uses module packaging techniques to achieve the industry leading size 1.1 x 0.9 x 0.5 mm footprint. The filter exhibits industry high power handling capabilities for transmit up to 28 dBm.

885128 - 2.4 GHz RF BAW Filter - Wi-Fi / Bluetooth LTE Coexistence

The 885128 from Qorvo is a high power Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) band-pass filter that operates at 2442 MHz with a 79 MHz bandwidth. It has been designed to enable coexistence of WiFi and LTE signals within the same device or in close proximity to one another. The filter has extremely steep skirts with high near-in rejection in the approximate LTE bands and has a low insertion loss of 1.3 dB. It is available in Pb-free module package that measures 1. 1 x 0.9 x 0.50 mm.

Qorvo is showcasing their wireless infrastructure products at the 2017 International Microwave Symposium in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 6-8 June in booth #1510 - Stop by their booth to learn more.
