BridgeWave Adds XPIC Technology to Double the Link Capacity of its 80 GHz Radio System

BridgeWave Communications 80 GHz backhaul radio system (Flex4G-10000) now supports cross-polarization interference cancellation (XPIC) technology. This gives their systems double link capacity in spectrum-limited or congested markets.

Using XPIC, a network operator can assign the same frequency to both the vertical and horizontal polarization of an RF channel, effectively doubling data throughput in the same channel. This optional capability is particularly important for network operators in global regions where telecommunications regulators are limiting spectrum efficiency by prohibiting the use of larger channel bandwidths in favor of smaller channels. XPIC is also advantageous in areas where spectrum is highly congested, enabling network operators to avoid interference while transmitting twice the data throughput.

Until now, ultra-high capacity radio systems like the Flex4G-10000 required 2000 MHz bandwidth to provide 10 Gbps capacity. Using XPIC frequency reuse technology, it can now provide up to 10.5 Gbps in just 1000 MHz bandwidth, or up to 6.0 Gbps in just 500 MHz bandwidth, doubling link capacity. Operators in overly subscribed areas such as Europe and the Middle East, as well as those in spectrum-congested dense urban environments around the world no longer have to compromise the capacity demanded by bandwidth hungry customers.

In addition to XPIC support, the Flex4G-10000 now supports 250 MHz bandwidth for networks with lower capacity demands to use the same radio across the network, reducing sparing costs and minimizing operating expenses; and BridgeWave’s proprietary AdaptRate technology to allow the radio system to automatically reduce bandwidth during extreme fade conditions to maintain availability and deliver critical traffic. BridgeWave has led the industry with this technology first introduced with BridgeWave millimeter wave radios more than a decade ago.

The BridgeWave Flex4G-10000 is a market leader in 80 GHz systems with hundreds of links deployed worldwide. It offers fiber capacity and performance, dramatically lowers capital costs, provides 256-bit AES encryption for highest data security, and provides the highest system gain in the industry to ensure maximum throughput at the longest distances. The system delivers 9.7 Gbps full-duplex data throughput in a single, zero-footprint all-outdoor solution and can quickly and easily scale from 9.7 Gbps to 19.3 Gbps (2+0 configuration) to meet future bandwidth requirements. It also easily and cost-effectively scalable to 10 Gbps for BridgeWave customers who have installed Flex4G-UHA, Flex4G-3000, or Flex4G-5000 systems, because it is fully compatible with the antennas deployed with those systems.

BridgeWave systems provide a fast, easy, and inexpensive way to extend backhaul networks without the cost, time, and complexity of new or leased fiber. In addition to the 80 GHz flagship system, it offers the Flex4G-LITE, delivering up to 3 Gbps full duplex, and the entry-level Flex4G-1000, delivering up to 1 Gbps full duplex. BridgeWave also offers Navigator microwave systems supporting the 6-42 GHz frequency bands, and which are built on the company’s proprietary, custom RF and modem ASICs. Navigator systems deliver features previously unavailable in any microwave radio and dramatically change the economics of microwave point-to-point links.
