Skyworks WLAN Module Powers High-Fidelity Wireless Digital Amplifier from Sonos

Wireless sound systems developer, Sonos, is using Skyworks’ wireless engines for connectivity in its new versatile digital amplifier called the Amp. Sonos is leveraging several of Skyworks’ front-end solutions to facilitate robust Wi-Fi communications allowing users to effortlessly transmit high-quality sound throughout the home with their mobile phones. With the surge in connected devices across the Internet of Things (IoT), wireless capability has become a critical link for many applications.

According to a recent market report by Juniper Research, the smart audio devices market is expected to exceed $10 billion by 2022, up from an estimated $2.5 billion in 2017, as consumers opt for homes and entertainment systems with increasing levels of connectivity. The proliferation of connected devices across the IoT coupled with artificial-intelligence voice assistant integration, easy smartphone interfacing and a growing number of mobile apps are driving this exponential growth.

Select high-efficiency, Smart Audio Solutions from Skyworks include the SKY85330-11 front-end module. It is a complete 802.11b/g/n 256 QAM WLAN RF front-end-module which provides all the functionality of a fully matched power amplifier, power detector, low-noise amplifier, and single-pole, double throw (SPDT) switch. It provides a complete 2.4 GHz WLAN RF solution from the output of the transceiver to the antenna, and from the antenna to the input of the transceiver. The LNA increases the receive sensitivity of embedded solutions to improve range or to overcome the insertion loss of cellular filters (often included for mobile applications).
