Quectel Wireless Solutions has successfully conducted a series of live tests of its 5G NR modules in customer devices for China, North America and Australia. The move represents the company’s intent to offer businesses and organizations reliable 5G connections based on the Qualcomm SDX55 modem.
Quectel achieved the data call using live 5G NR Sub-6 GHz bands in late October and began to support customers in 5G field tests from early November. In less than one month, the company teamed up with global customers and completed multiple live tests over different types of 5G devices including CPE and Always Connected PC (ACPC).
In collaboration with Qualcomm, Sichuan Changhong Network Technologies and China Mobile Communications Group (CMCC), Quectel completed the 5G NR data call over a RG500Q-powered CPE on CMCC’s 5G live network on November 14-16 at China Mobile Global Partners Conference 2019, which is one of the industry’s first such tests based on Qualcomm SDX55 modem.
The Quectel RG500Q is a 5G Sub-6 GHz module, compliant with 3GPP Release 15 specifications and capable of both 5G standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes of operation. It supports LTE Category 12 or above and has embedded GNSS capabilities. Developed mainly for the Asia-Pacific region as well as Europe, the Middle East, and North America, the module integrates Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem with RF transceiver, RF Front-End (RFFE) and antenna elements from Qualcomm.
It supports Qualcomm IZat location technology Gen8C Lite (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS). The module supports worldwide 5G and LTE-A coverage and makes ideal solutions for enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and fixed wireless access (FWA) applications such as CPE, gateways, ACPC as well as live streaming of ultra-high definition videos.
Engineering samples of Quectel's RG500Q and RM500Q are currently available, with commercial shipment following in Q1 2020.
