Hittite Microwave Corporation has introduced a new Ka-Band Block Upconverter with HPA. The HMC7056 features 65 dB of conversion gain. Its dual input IF is 1 to 2 GHz at 0 dBm typical and is upconvertered to 29 to 31 GHz at a linear output power of 37 dBm.
It has internal local oscillators that require a 100 MHz reference and utilize a dual upconversion scheme to ensure no phase inversion and maximum spurious rejection. Other attributes include: digital gain control, thermal monitoring and gain compensation, PA Enable and an output isolator to ensure excellent output VSWR.
The upconverter and the high power amplifier (HPA) can be sold as separate units. The upconverter provides SMA inputs and a 2.9 mm output connector. The HPA has a 2.9 mm input connector and WR28 waveguide output. The HPA utilizes GaAs MMIC technology. The individual HPA operates at 5 volts and draws 14 amps. The unit is designed for conduction coolind and operates over the -20 °C to +80 °C temperature range.
