The F5280 from Renesas is a 4-channel Tx/Rx Half-Duplex Beamforming IC that operates from 25 to 31 GHz. It is designed using the SiGe BiCMOS process and features an internal temperature sensor. The core IC has very flexible gain and phase control on each channel to achieve fine beam steering and gain compensation between radiating channels. The core design includes standard SPI protocol that operates up to 50MHz with fast-beam switching, fast beam-state loading, and fast four on-chip beam storage.
This IC uses a 6-bit chip address and has programmable on-chip memory. It has a typical Tx/Rx switching time of 100ns and requires a supply voltage from +2.3 to +2.7 V. The F5280 is available in a 49-BGA package that measures 3.6 x 3.6 mm and is suitable for 5G phased-array and beam steering applications.
