The u8 from Kymeta is an Electronically Steerable Antenna that operates from 10.7 to 12.75 GHz (Rx) and 13.75 to 14.50 GHz (Tx). It has a software-defined linear polarization (circular with software upgrade) and an active aperture diameter of 82 cm. This antenna leverages Kymeta’s unique software-defined, electronic beam steering technology to provide increased antenna performance, and extended environmental coverage while maintaining low-power operation. It has a low profile and aerodynamic design for easy integration into terminals designed for mobile platforms. The antenna supports multi-waveform OpenAMIP compatible modems and can be integrated into many unique system configurations. It requires a DC supply from 12 to 36 V and consumes less than 250 W of power.
The u8 provides an azimuth scan angle of 360° and an elevation scan angle from 15° to 90°. In Tx mode, it has an instantaneous bandwidth of more than 62 MHz, provides a gain of 34 dBi (broadside), and a cross-polarization isolation of more than 25 dB. In Rx mode, it has an antenna gain-to-noise-temperature (G/T) of 9.5 dB/K (broadside) and an instantaneous bandwidth of 250 MHz. It can be updated to support LEO operation (when available). This antenna is available in an IP66-rated enclosure that measures 89.5 x 89.5 x 14.0 cm with N-type connectors, a WR-75 waveguide interface, and an Ethernet network interface.
