The ADF4378 from Analog Devices is a Microwave Synthesizer that operates from 800 MHz to 12.8 GHz. It has integrated VCO and deterministic general-purpose pulse timer that allows for predictable and precise multichip clock and pulse alignment for SYSREF, SYNC, and multichip synchronization (MCS) architectures. This synthesizer has a wideband noise floor of -160 dBc/Hz at 12 GHz and a jitter of 27 fs (RMS) (ADC SNR method). It has a PLL with a phase detector frequency of up to 500 MHz and a normalized in-band phase noise floor of -239 dBc/Hz. This synthesizer requires a DC supply of 3.3 and 5 V and can be controlled via an SPI interface.
The ADF4378 simplifies clock alignment and calibration routines required with other clock solutions in multiple data converters and MxFE clock applications. It is available in a 48 lead LGA package that measures 7 x 7 mm and is ideal for high-performance data converter and MxFE clocking, wireless infrastructure (MC-GSM, 5G), test and measurement, and FPGA with integrated data converters applications.
