The SKY85300-21 from Skyworks Solutions is a 2.4 GHz Front-End Module for WLAN and Bluetooth applications. It has a fully matched power amplifier (PA), power detector, harmonic filter, low-noise amplifier (LNA), and single-pole, triple-throw (SP3T) switch. This FEM also has a transmitter positive slope power detector with 20 dB of dynamic range, and a digital enable control for transmitter power ramp on/off control. It supports the 256-QAM modulation scheme and provides a complete 2.4 GHz WLAN RF solution from the output of the transceiver to the antenna, and from the antenna to the input of the transceiver. The LNA increases the receive sensitivity of embedded solutions to improve range or to overcome the insertion loss of cellular filters (often included for mobile applications).
In Tx mode, it delivers an output power of 24 dBm with a small signal gain of 26 dB and 2nd harmonics of better than -23 dBc. In Rx mode, this FEM provides a small signal gain of up to 13.5 dB with a noise figure of less than 2.5 dB and has a switch isolation of more than 20 dB. The SKY85300-21 requires a DC supply of 5 V and consumes less than 320 mA of current. It is available in a 16-pin QFN package that measures 3 x 3 mm and is ideal for Wi-Fi-enabled smartphones, tablets, and mobile/portable devices and System-in-Package (SIP) modules for embedded systems applications.
